If you do not have a meter pit in your yard, shutting off the water should not be difficult. The main water shut off is usually in the basement of your home. The valve should look like the one in option 1. The water is on when the handle is running parallel with the pipe. When the water is shut off the handle will be perpendicular to the pipe. (See pictures below Option 1)

If you can’t locate your main water shut off and you have an RPZ Backflow, you can shut the water off by closing the two ball valves on each side of your Backflow device. (See pictures below Option 2)
